Ants

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Quarterly Service

Scientists* have identified and named over 12,500 different species of ANTS, but there are an estimated 8,000 or more still remaining to be classified.  That’s a lot of ants! Ants are found everywhere, except for Antarctica. They have even staked out colonies in unlikely places, such as Greenland and Hawaii and remote islands without an endemic ant population. Some ants have been purposefully introduced for hopefully beneficial reasons, while others have hitched a ride with unaware human travelers.

Ants are amazing social creatures—so interesting some people even keep them as pets, of sorts! Think of the sandwiched glass panels, correctly called a formicarium, popular in the 1950s, where one could observe how ants travel in a complex system of tunnels to their food source. Most ants build their nesting site along the path of least resistance, whether inside or outside, whether a commercial building or comfortable home, wherever they find a situation to their liking.  They are more opt to be active and noticed during the warm months, but they can easily function in cold months if they have access to the warmth of the interior of a structure. Depending on the species, ants can forage far afield from their nest, looking for a source of food or water. When a scout finds what the colony needs, that information can be chemical communicated in trails laid out for other workers to follow.

To achieve ant control, we start by determining the proper strategy right for each unique situation. Our experienced technicians can customize a variety of plans, including treatment of any accessible nests, interior treatment, or exterior perimeter treatment.

* Here’s a great trivia question for you:  What is a person called who studies ants?

ANSWER:  An entomologist, one who studies the science of insects or entomology, might specialist in the study of ants or myrmecology, making the entomologist also a myrmecologist!

Asian Lady Beetles (Ladybugs)

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Seasonal Service

Asian lady beetles are usually a seasonal nuisance, showing up in large numbers in the fall. Also known as ladybugs, these beetles can cluster on or in your house as they seek shelter for the winter.  Proper exclusion and maintenance are important in keep these pests out of your house, but an exterior treatment can greatly reduce their numbers.

Bed Bugs

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Monthly Service

Bed bugs are a specialized insect that feed primarily on human blood and occur around the world where humans are found.  Two species of bed bugs are the cause of most of the infestations encountered world wide: Cimex lectularius and Cimex hemipterus. They have been a plague on mankind since the earliest records of written history.

Bed bugs are opportunists and can easily hitchhike in luggage or clothing.  They can be picked up from public places, such as schools, restaurants, movie theaters, and hotels, or when visiting infested homes or apartments, or inadvertently brought in with second-hand furniture. Bed bugs are primarily dependent on humans for their blood meal, usually feeding while their host sleeps.

After we inspect for a bed bug infestation, you will be given a free estimate for treatment, which includes a follow-up application, if necessary, usually 7-10 days after the initial treatment.  To help ensure that the treatment can be applied as thorough as possible, here is a 10-step checklist on how to prepare.

When we receive a call about a possible bed bug treatment we always go out and inspect the situation to judge the severity and give you a free quote for the treatment.  The initial treatment is very though and owner/renter must follow certain steps to help the technician when possible. See 10 step checklist here.

After the initial treatment we will come back and inspect and treat a second time; usually 7-10 days after the first treatment. Additional treatments may sometimes be necessary in certain situations. However, we will continue to work with you to provide effective control.

Bees

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • Removal and Relocation

  • One-Time Treatment

They are the #1 pollinator of flowering plants and trees.  Without honey bees, pollination for food production would be difficult and costly. It’s hard to fully grasp the benefit these insects provide.

Bearing the importance of honey bees in mind, we maintain and cultivate our own bee hives. When we find that bees have moved into an area or building that will bring them into conflict with humans, we try and relocate them to a new, safe home, if possible. Honey bee stings can be dangerous, particularly if an allergic reaction occurs, and we recommend people stay away from the area of the bees until we can remove them from the site. If it is not possible to remove the hive without damage to the structure, we can treat the affected area, but our first choice is to relocate the bees to a new home. Unfortunately, if honey bees are already well-established in a structure, such as within a wall void, it is usually impossible to relocate them.

Carpenter Ants

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Carpenter ants are one of the largest ants in our area, easily recognizable by their large size and features. They like to nest in wood by creating cavities in trees and structures with wood used in their construction. They don’t eat wood like termites or powder post beetles but carve out spaces in the wood with their large mandibles to provide room for their nest.

If the carpenter ant nest can be located it is relatively easy to kill the infestation, however specially designed carpenter ant baits and non-detectable sprays, such as Termidore, can kill the colony without finding the nest location.

Carpenter Bees

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Carpenter bees are impressively large bees that bore round holes in wood for their nests. They can be very territorial, and will harass people and animals that come into the vicinity of their nest. Large numbers can riddle wood and compromise its structural integrity.

We can effectively treat your property for carpenter bees, using various methods, usually in one treatment.

Cockroaches

  • Interior Treatment(s)
  • One-Time Treatment
  • Monthly Service
  • Quarterly Service

Cockroaches are one of the most resilient and adaptable creatures on earth. They can become resistant to many forms of treatment and difficult to fully control without professional help. Depending on the severity, multiple treatments may be required. We can identify problem areas, and give recommendations for management.

Fleas

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Quarterly Service

Down through history, fleas have been a vector for disease and discomfort for animals and humans alike.  In high enough numbers, they can be life threatening to weakened and older animals. Fleas feed on an animal’s blood and then lay their eggs on the animal or around its environment. Fleas can be difficult to eliminate without a professional’s help because of a flea’s life cycle and resistance to many over the counter pesticides. Consult with your veterinarian on the best topical treatment for your pet, but call us for professional treatment of your house.

Flies

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Monthly Service

  • Quarterly Service

Flies can be a nuisance to humans and animals. After we determine what species of fly is bothering you, we can customize the proper treatment program to address our your needs and circumstance.

Hornets

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Hornets can build their nests in elevated areas, such as on tree branches, in tree hollows, in attics or soffits, and under decking, but also in lower areas, such as within bushes or in the ground. Hornets stings can be more dangerous due to the larger amount of venom in their stings versus other stinging insects. Fortunately, hornets are usually only aggressive when they respond to a threat to their nest. So leave the nest undisturbed and call for our professional help. Their stings can pose a potentially serious threat, if an allergic reaction occurs.

When a hive is located, our goal is to safely treat the area without endangering anyone involved.

Mosquitoes

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Monthly Service

  • Bi-Monthly Service

  • Quarterly Service

Besides being a constant irritation, mosquitoes can be a major health problem. Mosquitoes have the potential to carry life-threatening diseases, being able to transmit bacteria, viruses, and parasites. With the spread of West Nile virus from warmer southern states, even Ohioans should take proper precautions against mosquitoes.  Locating and then eliminating or treating all stagnate standing water is primary in proper mosquito control. Without standing water to breed in, mosquito numbers will be reduced. When standing water cannot be drained or removed, we can provide various methods to effectively treat those breeding areas. With multiple applications over the course of warm weather months, we can lessen mosquito populations that want to steal your blood.

Moths

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Indian meal moths can be inadvertently brought into a home with grain products, like flour, corn meal, cereal, pet food, and bird seed.  They will invade pantries and cabinets that store food, where their larvae can feast on whole grains, processed grains, flour, cake mixes, pasta, nuts, seeds, cereal, spices, dried fruits, or powdered milk.  Disposing of any contaminated foods is the first step in control, followed by effectively sealing all uncontaminated food.

We can place specialized Indian meal moth traps that entice adult moths. These traps, combined with spot treatment in affected areas, can reduce their numbers and how much food is wasted.

Powderpost Beetles

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Powder post beetles bore small, circular holes in wood and will then kick out a powdery substance, called frass, from these holes as their larvae digest the wood. They can be dormant for months or even years, and can survive in colder climates. Over time, they will cause significant damage to a structure if not treated properly. Detection can be difficult without a full inspection of crawl spaces and basements. Proper treatment with the right materials needs to be made to address the threat they pose. Without treatment and given enough time, these little wood boring beetles will do exactly what their name says—turn a post into powder.

Spiders

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

  • Monthly Service

  • Bi-Monthly Service

  • Quarterly Service

  • Seasonal Service

Spiders are one of the most adaptable species in the world, being found on every continent – except Antarctica – with over 45,700 different known species. Spider population outnumbers human population by more than one million to one. All spiders are venomous and can be a potentially fatal threat if proper medical treatment is not received in time. Fortunately, here in Ohio, we only have to deal with two potentially dangerous species, both rarely found in northern states, the black widow spider and the brown recluse spider.

Even though spiders are beneficial in the wild, they are usually not welcome inside a residence, and their webs and droppings can be unsightly on the exterior of houses or businesses. Untreated, spider webs can cover everything in sight and turn a pleasant home into what looks like a haunted house.  Spiders are especially bad around ponds, lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water that provide ample prey for the spiders to eat. While they are generally only active during the warm weather months, they can be busy year-round by wintering over in a warm environment, like a heated house or basement.

Spiders are also unique in that they do not pick up the chemical residue from the treatment by walking over it. All spiders must be sprayed directly and special attention must be paid to locate all of their hiding places. This means, on a regular basis, proactive treatments are needed to keep new spiders from re-entering the treatment area again by crawling along the ground or floating through the air on the wind.

Wasps

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Wasps can be a real threat when they are in conflict with humans. The stings of wasps can cause health problems, especially when a person has an allergic reaction, and in some cases it can even be life threatening. Wasps like to nest in high areas and are often found in attics, eaves of roofs, in and around gutters, secure areas away from wind and rain. We provide a service that will treat all hives and colonies that have established themselves around your house or business. By applying residual treatments to wasp-prone nesting areas, we can discourage future infestations. We can also remove the nests from hard to reach places.

Wood Rot

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Wood rot is a fungus that digests damp, moist wood causing it to deteriorate and lose its strength. Removing the moisture from the wood is key to proper treatment of wood rot. The moisture problem must be addressed, then we can treat the wood to deal with the wood rot fungus.

Yellow Jackets

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Treatment

Yellow jackets are often encountered as the summer wanes and the cooler days of autumn begin, when they become more aggressive in foraging for food. They will build large hives in sheds, under porches, in attics, and even in the ground. Once a hive is disturbed, they will often chase the offender quite some distance, trying to sting and harass to protect the brood. Dogs and cats can also be targeted by these pests. Whether for humans or pets, the stings of yellow jackets can cause severe pain, swelling, and the possibility of an allergic reaction.
