Spiders

  • Seasonal Appointments

Spiders are one of the most adaptable species in the world, being found on every continent – except Antarctica – with over 45,700 different known species. Spider population outnumbers human population by more than one million to one. While this can be a scary number, spiders are extremely beneficial, annually catching an estimated 400-800 million tons of prey. Without these predatory arachnids, we would have to deal with many more insects than we do now.

Even though spiders are beneficial in the wild, they are usually not welcome inside a residence, and their webs and droppings can be unsightly on the exterior of houses or businesses. Untreated, spider webs can cover everything in sight and turn a pleasant home into what looks like a haunted house.   Spiders are especially bad around ponds, lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water that provide ample prey for the spiders to eat. While they are generally only active during the warm weather months, they can be busy year-round by wintering over in a warm environment, like a heated house or basement.

Fortunately, here in Ohio, we only have to deal with two potentially dangerous species, both rarely found with proper precautions, the black widow spider and the brown recluse spider.  Spiders are also unique in that they do not pick up the chemical residue from treatment by walking over it.  They must be sprayed directly and special attention must be paid to locate all of their hiding places. This means, on a regular basis, proactive treatments are needed to keep new spiders from re-entering the spider-controlled zone made by our treatment.

Ants

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

  • Quarterly Appointments

Scientists* have identified and named over 12,500 different species of ANTS, but there are an estimated 8,000 or more still remaining to be classified.  That’s a lot of ants! Ants are found everywhere, except for Antarctica. They have even staked out colonies in unlikely places, such as Greenland and Hawaii and remote islands without an endemic ant population. Some ants have been purposefully introduced for hopefully beneficial reasons, while others have hitched a ride with unaware human travelers.

Ants are amazing social creatures—so interesting some people even keep them as pets, of sorts! Think of the sandwiched glass panels, correctly called a formicarium, popular in the 1950s, where one could observe how ants travel in a complex system of tunnels to their food source. Most ants build their nesting site along the path of least resistance, whether inside or outside, whether a commercial building or comfortable home, wherever they find a situation to their liking.  They are more opt to be active and noticed during the warm months, but they can easily function in cold months if they have access to the warmth of the interior of a structure. Depending on the species, ants can forage far afield from their nest, looking for a source of food or water. When a scout finds what the colony needs, that information can be chemical communicated in trails laid out for other workers to follow.

To achieve ant control, we start by determining the proper strategy right for each unique situation.  Our experienced technicians can customize a variety of plans, including elimination of any accessible nests, interior treatment, or exterior perimeter treatment.  This plan can be set up as a one-time treatment, a monthly treatment, a bi-monthly treatment, a quarterly treatment, or a seasonal treatment.  Our goal for ant control is to achieve the best protection for our customers.

* Here’s a great trivia question for you:  What is a person called who studies ants?

ANSWER:  An entomologist, one who studies the science of insects or entomology, might specialist in the study of ants or myrmecology, making the entomologist also a myrmecologist!

Cockroaches

  • Interior Treatment(s)
  • One-Time Elimination
  • Monthly Appointments
  • Quarterly Appointments

Cockroaches are one of the most resilient and adaptable creatures on earth. They can be resistant to many forms of pest control and it can be very difficult to fully eliminate without professional help. Depending on the severity, it can take multiple treatments to eradicate the infestation. Targeting the places cockroaches breed and eliminating any food sources are the most important parts of eliminating the problem.

Our technicians can provide help to locate any sources of moisture and potential food sources and give options to exclude and treat those areas. We ask the customer to clean up as much as possible before treatment and move any furniture and appliances six inches away from the wall to help provide access for our technicians. One-time eliminations plans are most popular however, in certain circumstances, monthly or quarterly plans are necessary for the best possible coverage.

Bed Bugs

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

  • Monthly Appointments

Bed bugs are a specialized insect that feed primarily on human blood and occur around the world where humans are found.  Two species of bed bugs are the cause of most of the infestations encountered world wide: Cimex lectularius and Cimex hemipterus. They have been a plague on mankind since the earliest records of written history. The first mention of bed bugs known is found in Aristotle’s works around 400 BC, and Pliny talked about bed bugs in his work “Natural History” circa 77 AD.

Bed bugs can be easily picked up from anywhere people tend to spend a lot of time sitting or reclining. Such as: Public transportation, hospitals, restaurants, movie theaters, and schools.  Traveling on vacations, and using planes, buses and trains and staying at hotels rooms and hostels are known to harbor bedbugs. Bed bugs can live for up to a year with out food and are attracted to humans by our breath, warmth and movement. Bed bugs tend to like dark, warm secluded areas near humans but not usually on people that are not sleeping.

Certain precautions can be taken to help protect yourself from picking up bedbugs while out and about.  If you travel to a likely problematic area or suspect that a place you have visited might have bed bugs, make sure when you arrive home to remove your outer clothing and place it immediately into a plastic bag or place in the laundry. If staying at a hotel make sure to thoroughly inspect the bed and bedside tables for any signs of bedbugs.  Suitcases and baggage should be washed and inspected once you are done using them as they can be a vector for infestation. High heat and sub freezing temperature can be used to kill bed bugs that you suspect might be on suitcases or things that you bring back from vacation.

When we receive a call about a possible bed bug treatment we always go out and inspect the situation to judge the severity and give you a free quote for the treatment.  The initial treatment is very though and owner/renter must follow certain steps to help the technician when possible. See 10 step checklist here.

After the initial treatment we will come back and inspect and treat a second time; usually 7-10 days after the first treatment.  Follow up treatments can sometimes be necessary since bed bugs are so resilient and hide so well. However we will always work with you until the problem is fully eliminated.

Flies

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

  • Monthly Appointments

  • Quarterly Appointments

There are many different kinds of flies that can be a nuisance to humans and animals, determining what specific specie of fly and their breeding areas are key to adequate decrease in the flies numbers. Often, if our technician can locate the source of food and breeding location of the flies, total elimination can be attained.

Depending on the specie of fly, exterior treatment might be necessary, however most of the time the flies are located on the interior of the buildings, around drains and other sources of moisture. We can customize the proper treatment program depending our your needs and circumstances.

Ladybugs

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

  • Seasonal Appointments

Ladybugs are often a seasonal nuisance showing up in large numbers around the fall months and congregate near windows, doors and ceilings. Sometimes hundreds of ladybugs can swarm a house and cause a great amount of distress with the mess and smell they cause. With proper exclusion and maintenance, a large majority can be kept on the exterior of the house. When this is not possible, often due to the age of a house, then treating the exterior and interior around windows, doors and other avenues of entry will eliminate the problem.

Moths

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

Indian meal moths will invade pantries and cabinets that store food such as grains, fruits and nuts. Sealing all food in plastic containers will help in most instances but sometimes a professional is required. We offer specialized trapping equipment that utilizes pheromones that are practically irresistible to moths. Traps combined with spot treatment in affected areas will fully eliminate moths from spoiling your food and costing you money at the grocery.

Mosquitoes

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

  • Monthly Appointments

  • Bi-Monthly Appointments

  • Quarterly Appointments

Besides being a constant irritation, mosquitoes can be a major health problem. With the spread north of West Nile Virus from warmer southern states, mosquitoes can be a potentially life threatening situation. Locating and then eliminating or treating all stagnate standing water is paramount in proper mosquito control. Without standing water to breed in, mosquito numbers will plummet to acceptable numbers. When standing water cannot be drained or removed we can provide various methods to eliminate any further mosquitoes from breeding in the area. With multiple applications over the course of warm weather months we can mitigate any mosquitoes from stealing your blood and help protect the heath of you and your family.

Wasps

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

Wasps can be a real threat to health and sanity when they are in constant conflict with humans. The stings of wasps can be a major health problem when a person has an allergic reaction, and in some cases it can even be life threatening. Wasps like to nest in high areas and are often found in attics, eaves of roofs, in and around gutters, secure areas away from wind and rain. We provide a service that will eliminate all hives and colonies that have established themselves around your house or business. By applying residual chemicals to those wasp prone nesting areas we can deter future infestations from ever being established. During our treatment we can also remove all the nests from hard to reach places.

Bees

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • Removal and Relocation

  • One-Time Elimination

Honey bees are one of the most beneficial insects found in nature. They are often the number one pollinator for plants in any given area worldwide. Without honey bees, pollination would be much more difficult and food production costs would soar out of control. It’s hard to fully grasp the service these insects provide for humanity.

Bearing the importance of honey bees in mind, we maintain and cultivate our own bee hives. When we find that bees have moved into an area or building that will bring them into conflict with humans or animals we try and relocate them to a new safe home. Honey Bee stings can be dangerous if an allergic reaction occurs and we recommend people staying away from the area of the bees until we can remove the from site. If it’s impossible to remove the hive without major damage to house or structure we can treat the affected area but we will try all measures to safely relocate them to a new home.

Yellow Jackets

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

Yellow jackets are often fall time nuisance when they become more aggressive in their foraging for food. They will build large hives in sheds, under porches, and even in the ground itself. Once a hive is disturbed they will often chase the offender quite some distance trying to sting and harass the victim. Dogs and cats can also be targeted by these pests when they get angry causing pain and irritation. The stings of a yellow jacket can cause a allergic reaction that can potential be life threatening if medical attention is not administered in time.

Once a nest is located full elimination is almost 100% when treated properly by our technicians. A one time elimination program is usually enough to take out the problem and we provide a residual treatment that will help prevent them from coming back in the future.

Hornets

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

Hornets build basketball-sized nests in tree branches, enclosed spaces, and even under houses in crawl spaces and basements. Hornets stings can be more dangerous due to the larger amount of venom in their stings versus other wasp stings. These stings can be a potential lethal threat if an allergic reaction occurs and medical care is not provided.

When a hive is located we can safely treat the area and remove the nest from the premises without endangering anyone involved. Once removal is complete we can provide a residual treatment to help prevent them and other stinging insects from returning.

Fleas

  • Interior Treatment(s)

  • Exterior Treatment(s)

  • One-Time Elimination

  • Quarterly Appointments

Fleas are a source of discomfort for animals and humans alike, and in high enough numbers they can be life threatening to weakened and older animals. Fleas feed off of a animals blood and then lay their eggs on a animal or around their environment. Fleas can be difficult to eliminate without a professionals help because of a fleas life cycle and resistance to many over the counter pesticides. Treating the animal with anti-flea medication in tandem with a professional pest control treatment of your house will eliminate the problem. We also offer flea lawn treatment to help protect your animals outside in your grassy areas so they can play safely without being in danger of picking up and bitten by any fleas.
